“Walk a mile in another person’s shoes.”
Learning to see and understand another person’s point of view enables us to treat others with higher levels of kindness and awareness. It’s a great way to figure out their wants and needs.
One of our favorite AI prompts does the same. It taps into the psyche of the other person, delivering superior AI outputs, and results.
We call this prompt: “From the perspective of…”
Here’s how it works. Type a prompt into your favorite AI model, then get your answer.
Now, key in a follow-up prompt: “From the perspective of” the person you want to reach, how would they perceive what I’m saying?
“From the perspective of my client, how would he react to my message? List likely reactions, and return ways for me to improve my message based on these reactions.”

Let’s use a real-life example to clarify.
You give your AI model the following prompt: “I’m a financial advisor sending an email to my client.”
AI provides the output. It’s useful, but not perfect.
Fortunately, when you give AI models more specific instructions, they usually do better. That’s the case for the “From the perspective of…” prompt.
After giving your initial prompt, tell your AI model that your client is a 65-year-old retiree who lives in Naples, Florida. He has two kids and four grandkids living nearby, a boat he and his wife take out for multi-day trips, and a mean pickleball dink.
This additional information supercharges the quality of your communication. It impacts everything from the length of your email (my client might be busier than the average retiree and less interested in long emails) to when to send your email (if the grandkids often visit after school, you’ll want to avoid sending late-afternoon messages).
In short, “From the perspective of…” is a powerful and versatile tool that gives you insights into how to communicate with clients, employees, and vendors.
